Stitches in Time by Suzanne Woods Fisher

Stitches in Time (The Deacon's Family #2)Stitches in Time by Suzanne Woods Fisher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

Stitches in Time by Suzanne Woods Fisher is the second book in The Deacon’s Family. I did not realize this was part of a series. I read this as a standalone and had no problem getting to know the story. However; I enjoyed it so much I plan to go back and read the first book. I think it will bring so much more to the backstory and to the characters.

I love reading stories following Foster families as I work within the field. However; I am pretty critical when I read these types of stories. I ended up really enjoying this one. The author did a great job pulling out my emotions while reading. I loved everything about this story from the setting, the plot, and down to the characters. It is just one of those reads you will lose yourself in while reading.

Overall, I loved this one.

The Plus OnesThe Plus Ones by Kayley Loring
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I love enemies to lover tropes! I just wanted a little more out of this one before they were showing so much interest in each other. I did not realize this is a standalone, but does follow other characters from another series from the author. I may have appreciated this one a little more if I had previously read those. This was just so short that it never fully developed into what I wanted, as I just wanted more details.

Normally hate to love stories revolve around characters hating each other and turning into more. This was more like a little kids I hate you from secretly loving you right from the start. I did not hate that, but I did expect something a little different from characters in their 30s.

This was my first from this author and I am still excited to explore some of her other work. There were so many aspects of the story that I did enjoy, like Keaton. Overall, I still like this one.

Make Me Yours by Tia Louise

Make Me YoursMake Me Yours by Tia Louise
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

This was my first Tia Louise and I enjoyed it. I have read several single parent stories this month (it just happened). This one was pretty good, and I may have liked it even more if I have not read several others so close to it.

I wanted to learn a little more about Remington and Ruby before they jump into wanting each other. I wanted a little more development. It was a little too fast for my liking.

I loved Remi’s daughter and found myself smiling at the parts that she was in. She brought that extra something that the story needed. I still wanted something else in the end to have this stand out from other reads.

Overall, I still enjoyed this one.

The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros

The Last LetterThe Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sometimes you read a book so beautiful that you just do not know how to write a review. The Last Letter has done that to me. All I can really say is, GO READ THIS! You will cry (a lot), smile, and it will make you believe in love (not just romantic love, but family love).

This is a very emotional read. Triggers do include War, love and loss, and childhood cancer. I went into this blind and highly recommend doing so as well. I almost passed on this one, and I am so glad the cover kept calling to me. I did not want to put this one down. I only stopped reading to give my head a break from my crying headache from the beginning. I was tearing up even in the happy moments! This story just pulled at all my emotional strings. I think this is the most I have ever cried and the hardest I have ever cried over a book!! I literally could picture what was happening and kept thinking this would make an amazing on screen movie!

I listed to this on Audible Escape. I definitely recommend the audiobook. I immediately went and purchased the paperback as I needed this in my collection.

Overall, I loved this and am obsessed. This has made my top reads of 2019! I need more from this author! If you have read any of her other work, let me know what you recommend next!!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I was excited yet nervous to read Lost Child. I am pretty critical when it comes to books/stories around children with behavioral issues, social workers, and broken families. I work with these issues everyday so sometimes it is hard for me to put my own experiences to the side.

I ended up really enjoying this though. I was not sure if this was fiction or non-fiction based on the information provided. I have learned that the author is a psychologist and pulls from her own experiences making this fiction and non-fiction at the same time. I actually really love that aspect of the story. I really connected with this one and like seeing a story bring attachment issues into it as there is little awareness out there in other reads. I liked learning about Jessie and wanted to see what would happen in the end.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I am excited to jump into more from this author.

Maybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Maybe in Another LifeMaybe in Another Life by Taylor Jenkins Reid
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have pretty high expectations at this point when it comes to Taylor Jenkins Reid. I was hooked on this one from the beginning.

I actually really enjoyed seeing the story from two different view points and how it shows how life can change with one simple decision. I also loved the friendship between Gabby and Hannah. It was a story of love and friendship. It will keep you guessing on how this was going to end.

The ending really slowed down for me though. It just went into too much detail at times and I was ready for everything to wrap up.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one though.

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I actually really love Christian Fiction romance, but I just could not get into this one. It started off a little too slow with nothing catching my interest. This made it pretty hard for me to get invested within the story and characters. I just never felt much happened and I found myself skimming to the end on this one.

Marriage for One by Ella Maise

Marriage for OneMarriage for One by Ella Maise
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This has been a book that has been on my TBR list forever. I was intimidated though as it is more than 500 pages. I finally took the plunge and I am glad I did.

First off, I would have never guessed this was as long as it was. I flew through this. The author did a great job with pacing. I thought it was going to drag on and on, but I actually did not have any issues with it at all. I loved the slow burn romance and being able to watch the relationship between Jack and Rose. I loved them both. I love how distant Jack was, but how Rose slowly tore down his walls. I found myself asking out loud “what did he do?” as I was reading. You will know what I mean once you start reading. I was expecting a little more with the plot twists, but still loved every minute of this.

Overall, I really loved this and need am adding this author to my need more list!

Work Me Up by Julie Kriss

Work Me Up (Riggs Brothers Book 3)Work Me Up by Julie Kriss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

I was sent this book from a PR marketing team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I actually listened to these on audiobook, and I flew through both books one and two! I was very excited to read book three around Ryan.

I highly recommend reading this series from the start as it follows the Riggs brothers. You will have a better understanding of their story and will be more invested within their stories if you start with the first book. I can see why someone jumping right into Work Me Up may have not liked it as much as others who loved the Riggs brothers already.

I was expecting a little more baseball, but it really does not fall into a sports romance for me personally. It is more the single parent read. I loved that Ryan and Kate previously knew each other. There was instant connection but not as insta love as book two (which I did not like about book two).

This one was really short. There is not much fluff at all. I liked that about it, but I still would have liked a little more development around the relationship between Kate and Ryan. The story jumped several weeks at a time. I still enjoyed it though!

Overall, I really love the Riggs brothers and Ryan was no exception. If you are looking for a fun and quick read, these are perfect! I am excited to see how the story around the unlikable Dex will be.

Cold Waters by Debbie Herbert

Cold WatersCold Waters by Debbie Herbert
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This had so much potential, but it really fell short for me. I was waiting for a huge twist and it just did not happen. It was obvious and not hidden who the killer was throughout the whole story. I was hoping it was setting it up for you to think who it was, but then it would twist and be totally different. Nope! There was a twist, but it did not bring anything to the story and just was not worth it for me.

The Outsider by Stephen King

The Outsider (Holly Gibney, #1)The Outsider by Stephen King
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

2.5 Stars

Believe it or not, this was my first Steven King read. I have always wanted to pick up something from him, but was always intimated by the size. I also rarely read in the horror genre. I found this one at the local library bookstore and decided to give it a try.

This had a very strong start! I was hooked! I would probably give the first half around 4 stars. I flew through it. However; the second half lost me and my attention. I was not interested in the turn the story was taking. I felt the story dragged on and on. I skipped some sections and feel I missed absolutely nothing when skimming/skipping these parts. I wanted to know how everything would unfold, so I kept reading.

Overall, this left me with mixed feelings.

I was very excited about this one as I was really intrigued by the synopsis. I am not sure why, but it just never captured my attention like I wanted it too after the first few chapters. I liked the first page enough, but I just never could get myself to sit down and get into this one. I think I tried picking this up and ended up reading the same pages at least five different times. I decided it was best to just give up on this one for now. I may try to pick up the audiobook in the future, as others really seem to love this. I want to give it a fair shot. For now, it is on hold.

“Two single parents. Three little kids. One summer they’ll never forget.”

This is a story following Jenna and Nate, both single parents. I really enjoyed their romance. We really get to know them both as we see Nate learning how to move on after the loss of his wife. Nate and Jenna really develop a friendship as their romance continued to blossom. They were both just great people. They were sweet and really gave each other what they needed.
I knew this was following two single parents going in. I really enjoyed the kids being apart of the story. They were such a big part of everything and just brought that extra Ahhh moments that I needed. My favorite parts included the kids.

This does deal with some triggering issues such as suicide and abandonment, but they are not at the forefront of the story.

Overall, a super cute romance.

I wanted to love this one. I am not sure what I was expecting, but this was not really it. I was waiting for a creepy or spooky read but this fell flat. This had so much potential but it was way too slow. I was so over everything and just wanted to know how everything would unfold. I ended up skimming to the end.

I have really been wanting to connect more and grow more within my spiritual side. This was perfect!

I loved that this was broken down to have something to read and go over every day for the month. It really brought me into looking into myself and learning more about myself. I think this is something that I can see myself picking up again over the years. I loved that it was interactive and gave me things to even talk with my husband about after reading.
