From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout

From Blood and Ash (Blood And Ash, #1)From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

This one is a little hard for me when rating. There were aspects of the story that I really enjoyed and others that were just too slow paced. I know so many people who have named this the top book they have read in the year. I am a huge JLA fan, but I just did not love this as much as everyone else.

This started off a little slow. I actually picked it up as soon as it was released. I read a few chapters and put it down. I later picked up the audiobook to finish. I am glad I finished it, but still did not love it as much as I wanted too.

I was confused on some of the aspects around the fantasy. It was hard to follow until it was further explained.

I loved the scenes with Poppy and Hawke, but that is no surprise since I am a romance lover. This is also where I feel JLA always stands out. I have always loved her contemporary romances.

There were also some intense parts where I was tearing up. I loved that this did bring out different emotions as I was reading.

I do think this was way too long though. I also feel that some of the world needed more explanation.

I still enjoyed this and will continue with the series, but I just was expecting to blown away and was not.

Now That I've Found You by Kristina Forest

Now That I've Found YouNow That I've Found You by Kristina Forest
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

This one is a little hard for me when rating. There were aspects of the story that I really enjoyed and others that were just too slow paced.

I really did not like Evie and never really connected with her character. I did enjoy the parts that involved Evie and Milo though and would have liked to see more of them throughout. This really was a romance within a story around a young girl finding herself. It involves some family themes as Evie goes to stay with her famous grandmother. Evie was very selfish most of the story though and was only thinking about herself.

Like I mentioned, I had some pacing issues with this one. I needed something more in the middle of the story as I found myself skimming some of the chapters. There was really not much going on at times.

Overall, this one was only ok for me.

The Christmas Swap by Melody Carlson

The Christmas SwapThe Christmas Swap by Melody Carlson

It is never too early for a Christmas read! I was excited for this one as I usually love a good Christmas story. Sadly, I could not get into this one. I just was not connecting to the story or the characters on this one. I tried to push through, but I had a hard time wanting to pick this one up even though it is a little shorter.

I have heard great things around this author though, and I cannot wait to see what else she brings.

The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks

The Wife Between UsThe Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Wow! I am shocked about this one. I know so many people who loved this, but it is a no for me. I was initially interested within the story. However; the more it went on, the less interested I found myself. Nothing was happening. Nothing. Yes, there was a twist, but it was not enough to support everything else going on. I ended up skimming some of this hoping something else was going to happen. Nope. This one was really disappointing.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this one. Once Emma gets to the Lake though, things slowed down. I had some issues with pacing and it lost my interest. I ended up DNF this one.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

It has been a minute since I truly enjoyed a story that dealt with younger teens in high school. This one sounded really good though.

I really enjoyed the characters and their romantic journey. Keeley did come off very immature for her age at times. However; I loved her and Drew together. I was rooting for them the whole time. This was pretty predictable around what was going to happen between the two of them, but I still enjoyed it.

There are triggers for mean girls and of course sex. I liked how this tackled the subject around sex though as it is an issue/topic that many teens are facing in real life. I think it is a taboo topic that many want to avoid, but it is involving our youth at a younger age more now than ever. These behaviors are happening. I liked that this showed older teens in High School dealing with sex, drinking, and stereotypes around sex between males and females.

Overall, this one was pretty good!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I really enjoyed this one. It grabbed my attention right from the start. I thought this was going to go back and forth between the present and future, but it did not except for one scene.

This is a story around friendship and love. It does have triggers for terminal illness and loss. After the initial scene, it was pretty predictable what was going to happen as you continued to read. It still did not take away from my enjoyment from the story.

This was a heartbreaking read. I was expecting to be bawling my eyes out, but it just never took my emotions there even with the hard hitting issues we go through.

Overall, I still really loved this one.

The Dare by Elle Kennedy

The Dare (Briar U, #4)The Dare by Elle Kennedy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

I love Elle Kennedy and the Off-Campus series. When she came out with Briar U, I jumped on board with this new series. She just knocks sports romances out of the park. You can read this as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the previous books as it will give you some insight into several of the other characters.
I am not sure if this is the last one in this series, but I just cannot get enough.

This one was not my favorite though. This is mainly due to Taylor and the constant insecurity around her weight. It is not very clear if she is even overweight as it only mentions her having some curves. I was annoyed with this as it was a little overkill on someone who really does not appear overweight at all. I do like how it hits on insecurities though and how Connor really tries to help her through this.

This does deal with issues/triggers of mental health, acceptance, family, love, body image and more. It had a little bit of everything.

I really wish the Off Campus Series and the Briar U series would be adapted into a TV series. It would be so good. I am obsessed with both series and all of the characters. I am heart broken to know this is the end of the Briar U series!

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I have never read anything from this author and did not realize Sleeping with the Enemy is actually book four in the Lords of Lancashire series. I read this as a standalone though and had no issues with jumping into the middle of the series.

This one caught my attention right from the start. It was a story about second chances and finding love. I really enjoyed that the characters were older. I really enjoyed everything that Laura and Geoffrey had to go through.

I did have a few pacing issues with this one, but otherwise I really enjoyed it.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

2.5 Stars

Brittainy C. Cherry is one of my favorite authors. I had to get this one the day it released. Sadly, it was not my favorite.

This one was ok. It just never brought the heart wrenching surprises that I have come to expect from her works. It just did not bring much to keep my attention and I just never found myself falling in love with the characters or storyline.

I just expected a little more with this one.

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was sent this book from the publisher/publicity team. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

I have seen a few mixed reviews on this one, but decided to still give it a try. I will say that I thought this had a pretty great start. I thought the story was going to continue Emira and what happened to her at the grocery store. It does come back into play, but the story took a whole different direction that what I was expecting.

The story really switched focus after the initial storyline. There was too much dialogue and not much going on to keep my interest. I ended up skimming to the end.

Overall, this was just fell flat for me.

Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros

Great and Precious ThingsGreat and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rebecca Yarros wrote one of my favorite books of all time and I will read everything she puts out. I was so excited for Great and Precious Things and I was not disappointed.

I really loved Cam and Willow. I liked being able to see the layers of their relationship over the years, including when they were younger. It was nice to see how the relationship with Willow and his brother played out as well so you could really see the love between the two.

This does deal with triggers for Alzheimer’s, grief, and loss. It deals with issues around medical needs such as a DNR.

I was not a huge fan of the ending, but otherwise I really loved this one.

Ritual by Kandi Steiner

RitualRitual by Kandi Steiner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars

I love Kandi Steiner and The Palm South University series is one of my favorite series. To say I was excited for this new release is an understatement. I just absolutely have fallen in love with all of the characters and this world. It did not take me long to remember everything that has happened when jumping into Ritual.
Ritual was much more steamy than I remember the others being. I personally just skip over these scenes, as I am more interested in the storylines.

I was excited to get a little bit of everyone in this story though. You get to hear from Cassie, Bear, Jess, Skyler, Erin, Ashlei, and Adam. I liked some of the directions for the characters better than others. I am normally team Cassie and Adam, but I did not love them in this one. They were annoying and I missed the banter between the two.

I know I may be the odd one out, but I am totally team Bear and Erin. I like the new guy so far, but he has not won me over compared to Bear and Ex. I am hoping we can build on that a little more too.

Some of the storyline felt pretty repetitive, but if you are on book 5 you probably still love reading about our favorite characters. I can see that Cassie is planning on getting a Little, so it will be interesting how the next books incorporate some new characters.

Overall, I still enjoyed this one but it is still starting to sizzle out. I need more development within the characters and more details into some of the things we have seen them go through. I hoping everything wraps up nicely in the final two books.
