About the Book
Title: Everything Under The Sun
Author: Jessica Redmerski
Genre: YA/NA Crossover; DystopianAuthor: Jessica Redmerski
Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilization fell, devastated by
a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven
years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart
of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and
her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is
destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her
about.
Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the
past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a
post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon
his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But
when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he
risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together
on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and
clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they
fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it
fated to die with them?
MY REVIEW:
My Rating: 3.75 Stars (4 Stars rounded up)
I was sent this book as part of a
blog tour. My ratings and reviews will
be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or
authors who may have sent me books to review.
I actually completed a promo post on
my blog a month or so ago on this book.
I really wanted to read it back then, and I knew I needed to grab
it. I have loved everything I have read
by JA Redmerski previously. When I saw
this was going to be available to review, I was very excited to get the chance
to finally read this one!
I actually read this on both Kindle
and paperback, as I started the Kindle version until the paperback got to me in
the mail. I did not want to put this
down which is good since this is a beast of a book over 600 pages long. However; the author has a way of pulling you
into her stories and not letting you go.
Everything Under The Sun was no exception.
I loved that this was so different
than the other books I have read from the author. This is probably why this is published under Jessica
Redmerski and the others are published under J.A. Redmerski. That is just my speculation, and not a
fact.
I am not normally a huge Dystopian
fan, but this was one of my favorites I have read yet. This is a new adult dystopian. This is a story about strength and
determination, survival, sisters, hope, and love. This involved some pretty intense plot points
and I do not recommend this for sensitive readers. This is a very crude world involving rape and
murder and inequality to women. This covers abuse or all kinds and issues
around suicide. There are scouting
parties who bring back goods and people in which women are cast into jobs
including a warrior, a worker, a wife, or a whore.
This book will make you have every
feeling possible. I felt angry and
disgusted how the men were treating women (I understand this is problematic, but
keep reading it is worth it). I laughed,
I cried, and there were moments I wanted to throw this book across the
room. Every time I thought this would
slow down, something would happen and my heart would be racing to find out what
happens next.
I also loved Atticus! I loved how much he respected Thais, wanted
to protect her, and wanted to change the world.
This was pretty long, and I do think
that somethings were a little repetitive.
It could have been a little shorter and just as amazing. The middle section
could have been taken out and I think I would have loved this even more. I give the first half 5 stars, the middle 3
stars, the ending 4 stars.
Overall, this was probably one of the most unexpected reads of the year for me so far. I loved it!
