I was sent this book as part of a blog tour. My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.
Yesterday’s News is a story about a missing girl named Lucy who went missing fifteen years ago. Clare, a reporter turned TV producer/editor has been very connected to the story since the beginning and wants to help bring awareness to the missing girl again after all this time. As she begins investigating the story, a ton of new leads and secrets are discovered. This takes some very dark turns and does deal heavily with child abuse (heavy physical and sexual abuse), child abductions, and corrupt politics. It definitely went in a different direction that I originally was expecting.
I had never heard of this author, R.G. Belsky before. By the time I was on chapter three, I was looking up information around the author and what other books he has written. I was hooked and the next thing I knew I was fifty pages in. I had chills as the story was developing and as the suspense was building. If I could give the first fifty pages a rating, it would five stars.
The second half of the book took a different turn as mentioned above, and I was not as in love with the story once the twists and turns began. I ended up only giving this three stars overall which was disappointing since the beginning was so amazing. It was still good, and I did not see all of the twists coming which was refreshing. However; some of the things that happened were so far fetched, I just did not love it.
Overall, this was enjoyable. I am interested in reading some other work from the author though.
