Red Sky Over America by Tamera Lynn Kraft: Blog Tour with Review

I was sent this book as part of a blog tour.  My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

"William and America confront evil, but will it costs them everything?

In 1857, America, the daughter of a slave owner, is an abolitionist and a student at Oberlin College, a school known for its radical ideas. America goes home to Kentucky during school break to confront her father about freeing his slaves.

America's classmate, William, goes to Kentucky to preach abolition to churches that condone slavery. America and William find themselves in the center of the approaching storm sweeping the nation and may not make it home to Ohio or live through the struggle."

My Rating: 4 Stars

Format: Paperback

I cannot even lie on this one, this cover immediately pulled me in.  I requested to review this before I even knew what it was about.  The cover is just stunning, which I think is important as it will draw others to grab for it as well.

Historical fiction is one of those genres that are hit or miss for me.  I need a little bit of the historical feel, but enough modern day feelings to keep my interest (if that even makes sense).  This ended up surprising me and I really ended up enjoying it.

This did take me a little longer to get through than it normally takes me to read through a book.  It was more about my personal preference in a fast paced read, and nothing against this story.  I found myself reading large sections at once, but then putting it down to come back to it later. It was just not something I wanted to rush through.  I wanted to take in all of the story.

Overall, Red Sky Over America is another book that really surprised me.  I love when I step out of my comfort area and find a winner!  I recommend this, especially for historical fiction fans!
