The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren: Upcoming Release with Review

I was sent this book from publisher.  My ratings and reviews will be my own personal opinions and are in no way influenced by publishers or authors who may have sent me books to review.

Synopsis:

"Liv's words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she'd known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence.

It's been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night—a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.

Liv Arias thought she'd never return to Long Acre—until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs..."

MY REVIEW:

My Rating: 4 Stars
Format: Paperback
Source: Publisher
Release Date: January 2, 2018

This was my first Roni Loren read, but it will not be my last. Let’s start off by talking about this cover. I love it, and it was definitely the first thing that pulled me into wanting to read The Ones Who Got Away.

This deals with an issue that our country unfortunately has had to deal on several occasions…a school shooting. The story actually takes place twelve years after the tragedy. Right from the start you will be heartbroken as you learn about the characters past and present.

This starts off with a “forbidden/hidden” high school romance that is now reconnecting. The attraction between Liv and Finn is undeniable even after all these years. I think you will really connect with the love story if you had a secret love from years ago.

Both Liv, Finn, and the other characters are really dealing with the past and if it is possible to move on. It really delves into PTSD as well including flashbacks and nightmares plaguing the characters. Finn even went into a career as a cop to try to stop guns being sold to young children.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and I look forward to reading more from this author.
