I was sent this book in exchange for an honest review.  Please see below for additional disclaimers.

How Much is it?
Split Rock can be purchased for $19.95 on Amazon, here.  It is also available on Kindle.

What's it about?
"After inheriting a house on Martha's Vineyard and finding herself alone there with three young children, Annie Tucker must confront her past when an unresolved love tests whether she has the courage to resist the pull of seduction and reclaim her true self. Both poignant and funny, this story is about forgiveness, acceptance, and the power of love and family."

MY THOUGHTS:
My Rating: 3 Stars

I was sent this book for a book tour and for a review.

I honestly am torn about this book. I really enjoyed the plot itself. The author said it better than I can, "this story is about forgiveness, acceptance, and the power of love and family."

I struggled with the writing itself. There were some chapters that I really loved and felt the writing just flowed nicely. Other chapters were just too descriptive and jumped from thought to thought or setting to setting. It too much at times.

Chapter one threw a lot of characters and names out really quickly. I had to take a step back to figure out who was who/or who was being talked about. It was pretty overwhelming, but it did all come together in the end. I am happy I pushed through. Normally, if I am not pulled in within the first few pages I will put a book to the side.

I did not seem to love this as much as everyone else, but I was able to finish it and still thought overall it was an enjoyable read.

She began SPLIT ROCK as a short story when her youngest child was in nursery school, put it aside while raising her family, and finished it a month before her oldest was married. A graduate of Harvard College with a Master's degree in English and American Literature from the University of Virginia, she and her husband now live on Martha's Vineyard and in Northern California, where she teaches writing.
