To Catch a Killer by Sheryl Scarborough
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I have really been getting into true crime, so this caught my attention just based on the synopsis and title. It ended up being a pretty decent read.
This was definitely a YA mystery. I did not really think it was a thriller though. This really focused on forensic evidence more so than things happening constantly. It was still fast paced and kept my interest though. If you love hearing about DNA and forensic evidence, you will love it.
Overall, this was ok. I would love more around the murder of Erin’s mother. That would make a great adult thriller.

Mind Games by Nancy Mehl: Book Review
Mind Games by Nancy Mehl
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I love when a book catches me by surprise, and that is exactly what happened with Mind Games by Nancy Mehl. I was sent this as part of a review tour and I was really interested in reading it. However; once it showed up I just never wanted to pick it up. I knew I had to give a chance and get my review completed, and when I finally picked it up I was blown away. I loved it.
If you love suspense novels, you need to give this one a try. It is hard to really pinpoint why I loved this without getting into the plot and the twists and turns along the way. I do not want to put any spoilers, so just go give it a try.
I had read a few reviews that noted this was the best Nancy Mehl book so far, so I am so glad I started with this one. I need more from this author ASAP.

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
I was a huge fan of the previous series and even Lady Midnight. I am not sure what happened with Lord of Shadows, but I just could not get into the story. I never take several weeks to read a book, but this took me over a month. I never found myself wanting to pick it up. I feel nothing really happened, and it just dragged on. The story jumped around too much to really get captured into what was happening next. This just fell very flat for me. I pushed through as I have come too far to give up now. I am hoping the third book is better!

Indivisible by Travis Thrasher
Indivisible by Travis Thrasher
I have not seen anybody talking about this book, and I only found out about it after I saw the movie trailer which included two past characters from Greys Anatomy. When I saw it was a book, I knew I wanted to pick it up before jumping into the movie.
The book was ok. I had a hard time connecting with the writing and the characters. I found myself skimming parts of the story. I was expecting somethink a little different than what was delivered. I am still going to check out the movie eventually though, as I still enjoyed this. I just did not love it.

Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
When I read The DUFF, I was shocked how much I liked it, so I wanted to try some more of the books by the author. Lying Out Loud has been on my shelves forever, and I decided it was time to give it a try.
I was instantly brought into the story with Amy and Sonny. I was laughing and smiling within the first few pages and I was just instantly brought into their stories. This does deal with friendship, loss, abandonment, and teenage love. Sonny is also dealing with several series issues within her own family life. These issues brought the emotional touch to the story as well.
Yes, this is YA. Yes, it was predictable, and yes, it was not anything that will blow you away. But, it was also just a fun and quick read. I loved it. It was exactly what I needed right now. I again was pleasantly surprised with this one and look forward to reading more from Kody Keplinger.

The Silent Waters by Brittainy C. Cherry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
"The world keeps spinning because your heartbeat exists."
This is the third book in the Elements series and can be read as a standalone. I have read the other three and loved them, and decided it was time to finish the series. I do not why I waited so long.
I highly recommend going into this blind, as it will just make the story that much better. Yes, there were things that happen that were predictable. However; it did not take away from the emotional impact the story will take on you. I was waiting for what happened, knowing it was going to come, and I still balled my eyes out (you will know what I am talking about when you read this).
I loved the love between Maggie and Brooks. This was not just about a romance, but about family. The parts with Maggie’s father, mother, and sister were also very emotional! I was hooked the moment I started this one, and I read it in one sitting. Be prepared to stay up all night to finish this and for your heart to break.
Overall, I loved this!

On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter
On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I am in love with Denise Hunter and the Blue Ridge series. I was excited to get an advance copy of On Magnolia Lane, but when it was running behind on getting to me I went ahead and bought my own copy of this as well since I could not wait to read it!
This is actually the third book in the Blue Ridge series, and I had no clue it was the last. I think this was a great conclusion to the series though. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the series in order to have a better love for the characters.
This had everything that I love about Denise Hunter: friendship, love, faith, and so much more. Her writing is just flows together and you will get lost in the story about Daisey and Jack.
If you love romance, pick up this series.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
3.5 Stars
I have been putting off starting the Dark Artifices series until it was closer to the final book coming out. It was time to finally jump in.
I personally loved the beginning of the story. It had been so long since I was in the Shadow Hunter world, so I enjoyed how a recap of characters and terms were reintroduced within the new story. It made getting back into the world much easier. There was a lot of building the new characters and scenes up before much else happens. The one thing that really kept my interest was learning about the murders so early on.
I do feel this was way too long for what it ended up being though. There was not too many high points throughout the story. A lot was dragged out to more than it needed to be. I ended up having to switch between reading this physically and listening to the audiobook as certain parts I was losing interest in.
I did end up enjoying this, but it did not blow me away like I was hoping and expecting. Do not get me wrong, it was still good. I cannot wait to see where book two takes us and all of the characters.

Out of Breath by Rebecca Donovan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I have really enjoyed this series, but I do feel it was a little too long. This could have been wrapped up within two books. Book three was my least favorite in the series. I just felt it was too long and was repetitive.
Emma has now been off in college and is suffering from her demons. She starts to spiral as she has not dealt with her past. She meets a new guys and things seem to be looking up for her. Then more horrible things happen, and Emma beings to spiral even more. Enter Evan! I was actually disappointed that Evan came back in to the picture. It was pretty predictable, but I was personally team Cole. I feel Evan was a trigger for Emma. He enabled her and I feel they were actually not good for each other. I feel Emma used Evan as a way to hold on her hurt and being with him would not allow her to move on.
I ended up not loving the finale, but enjoyed the series overall.

Mark of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse
Mark of the Raven by Morgan L. Busse
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Every now and then I am in the mood for a great fantasy. I went into this with low expectations and ended up really enjoying it.
I love a good assassin story, and that is what initially grabbed my attention around this story and these characters. I especially loved the way Selene was able to kill others. This also introduces Damien who I loved. I was routing for the couple the whole time and could not wait to see what happened.
There were a few parts that were a little too slow and I was ready for the story to move on. Other parts were very fast paced. It was a pretty good mix.
Overall, this surprised me. I really enjoyed it.

Barely Breathing by Rebecca Donovan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was not really sure what book two was going to bring to keep the story moving, but it did deliver. This continues to follow the same characters from book one. Emma is moving in with her mother which you know is going to bring some issues/drama/trauma based on their past together.
I enjoyed this one, but again, feel it was a little too long for what it was. However; the author had a way of keeping your interest during the whole story. I was never bored and I finished it pretty quickly for being such a big book.
Overall, I did not love this one as much as the first but it was still pretty good….on to the conclusion!

The Smell of Other People's Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I was not really sure what I was in for when I started The Smell of Other People’s Houses. I have heard that it was a one of those books that will be your favorite without you even knowing it. I definitely get that thinking.
This story follows four different teens: Ruth, Dora, Alyce, and Hank. When this started it was almost like four separate stories. However; the stories all come together in the end. I did like some of the characters more than others. Some of the stories dragged on and I was ready for them to move on.
Overall, this was pretty good. It did not blow me away as I was expecting it too.

I was expecting so much out of this story, and I just did not end up loving it. I understand and respect the message, but the story itself was flat for me. I never connected with the story. I only forced myself to finish since it was so short.

Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane by JoAnn Ross: Review
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane by JoAnn Ross
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane is the second book in the Honeymoon Harbor series. However; this can be read as a standalone. I did not previously read the first book, and had no issues jumping into the story.
I am not really sure why, but this was a slow start for me. I picked this up and put it down several times before actually jumping in. I think I read over the first chapter three different times. I liked the beginning, but I was not loving it. I liked enough to want to read more and I am happy to have finished the story following Jolene and Aiden. I was finally in the mood for a holiday read, and this was the perfect book to jump into the holiday season.
It is no secret that I love a good second chance romance, and I loved how Jolene and Aiden come back together after so many years. Aiden is also a Marine which is another thing I love about a story. I loved the plot surrounding our characters and the direction the story took as I continued to read. I do feel there was some pacing issues and I found myself wanting to skip ahead on some parts.
Overall, an enjoyable read. I look forward to checking out more from the author in the future.
